Ancestral Folds: Storytelling through Chinese Thread Books

Ancestral Folds: Storytelling through Chinese Thread Book

A book made of folds.

A container for memory.

In this workshop, we learn the art of the Zhen Xian Bao, a traditional Chinese thread book—once used to carry the intimate tools of daily life.

Through folding, we begin to gather:
plant fragments, small objects, quiet stories, things we don’t want to lose.

Each pocket becomes a chamber for memory.
Each fold, a gesture of care.

This is a slow, tactile practice rooted in women’s making traditions—where craft becomes a way of remembering.
