Creative Cyanotype Explorations

  • Blazing Star Herbal School Conway MA (map)

Discover the alchemy of cyanotype—one of the oldest and most versatile photographic processes. Practiced since the 1840s, cyanotype allows you to create everything from precise photographic prints to painterly abstractions and etherial botanical images.

Cyanotype is a photographic process that uses iron based chemicals, sunlight, and water to create uniquely blue images. This course will focus on both traditional and experimental methods of cyanotype (camera-less photography), covering a variety of approaches to explore the possibilities of this historic process through an experimental lens. In this class we will explore botanical cyanotypes both wet and dry methods.

Join me on Sunday, July 20th for an engaging, hands-on workshop set in the garden. We’ll explore the fascinating history of this beautiful blue art form, learn techniques to bring your ideas to life, and create your own unique prints. Whether you’re an experienced artist or a curious beginner, you’ll see why cyanotype has captivated generations of artists.

Come spend the day experimenting, creating, and celebrating the expressive possibilities of sunlight and chemistry.
